Hello, I’m April Smith, it’s a pleasure to meet you!
I understand what it’s like to be in a place of seeking help amidst a sea of qualified counselors and being overwhelmed with the choices. The human experience is one that brings us unique challenges to which nobody is immune. My goal for you is that you allow us to walk together through the challenges you are finding yourself in. I want you to know you have a safe place where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to face adversity beyond our work together.
I have always felt that the tests I have faced in my life were never about me, as much as they were lessons that I needed to help other people heal. I understand what it’s like to want to be understood by someone who has lived experiences of adversity and inner turmoil. I would like you to know that my own challenges in life are what brought me to this place of being able to be a healing place for you. Your story is safe with me. I will provide you with an environment where you do not feel judged, and you do not feel alone. I understand that I cannot do the work for you, but I believe in you, and it would be an honor to do the work with you.
ABOUT ME
I have diverse experience working with both children and adults. I have been in the trenches working with families impacted by divorce, poverty, substance abuse, mental health challenges and developmental disabilities, the child welfare and foster care system, homelessness, grave illness/disease and more. I am a compassionate advocate for humans and our basic human rights. My goal as a professional is and always will be to leave somebody better than when I found them, regardless of my role or their life circumstances that brought us together.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I attended undergraduate studies in Toppenish Washington at Heritage University. This private college in Central Washington is placed on the Yakama Nation Reservation, a multicultural institution, and provided me with a rich opportunity to dive into work on my own cultural competency. There, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work with a minor in Criminal Justice. I went on to complete my Master’s Degree in Social Work at Eastern Washington University where my focus was public child welfare. My professional experience is diverse, and so is my approach to therapy! Let’s dive in and see what is going to work best for you.
