AmyJoy Sedberry, LMHC

I know from my own experience that pursuing counseling can feel intimidating. Finding the right counselor can seem like a formidable process and I would like to make that process easier by giving you a glimpse of who I am and what my theory and practice of counseling looks like.

Counseling can be a resource for you regardless of what season of life you are in. You may be in pain; overwhelmed by feelings of despair or anger. Perhaps you are struggling with unhelpful thought and behavior patterns that you can’t seem to break free of regardless of how hard you’ve tried. Maybe some of those patterns are affecting your closest relationships and you are ready to try something different.

My goal is for the therapeutic relationship to offer a sacred space where you feel fully heard, seen, and known. You are the expert on you. I will not assume that I know how you feel or what it is like to be you. I will listen to you with curiosity and compassion to better understand what you are going through.

I work to create an atmosphere of safety so that you can be authentic about who you are and how you are struggling without being met with shame, judgment, or pressure to perform. I want you to be able to bring every part of you to the counseling room, even the parts that you are frightened or ashamed of.

It is from that foundation of safety and being understood that I can partner with you as you heal and make changes.

About me

I believe that all of my clients are intrinsically valuable and possess rich internal resources that account for most of the change they experience in therapy. It would be an honor to walk with you through the process of identifying and utilizing your internal and external resources to bring about the changes you want to see in your life.

Counseling has been a tremendous resource for me as I have wrestled with my own woundedness and trauma. I know what it is like to feel stuck and wonder if things could ever improve. I have experienced personal transformation in therapy, and it has continued to enrich my life as both a client and now a clinician.

Professional experience

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington. I am level one certified in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I am a certified facilitator of Prepare & Enrich Premarital Counseling and I have received formal training in Play Therapy (age 4+). I am passionate about the healing that can occur within safe, compassionate relationships.

My goal is to tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual client and couple. I strive to maintain a trauma and neuroscience informed approach and I employ resources from a variety of evidence-based practices (internal family systems, somatic, person-centered, existential, humanistic, attachment, cognitive-behavioral).

I welcome any questions you have about me or my approach.
